The City of Taylor now has a Comprehensive Plan that reflects the needs relevant to the community today. It is important, now more than ever, that Taylor be financially resilient and fiscally sustainable for the continued success of Taylor. The Envision Taylor Comprehensive Plan utilizes guiding principles of resilience and fiscal sustainability to ensure a stronger Taylor of the future.

Taylor should be a great place to live. Like the recent success of the 2015 Downtown Revitalization efforts, the City of Taylor will continue similar efforts in other areas.

Resilience

To remain strong, Taylor requires communities, infrastructure, and systems that can thrive in the face of future economic, fiscal, and environmental uncertainties.  Resilient communities do not wait until challenges present themselves to react but instead work to build a strong foundation based in sustainable decision making. Using resilience as a guiding principle requires making infrastructure, natural systems, and social structures more durable so that they can withstand and recover from acute shocks and chronic stresses. 

Fiscal Sustainability

The type and location of development has a large impact on the cost of providing and maintaining high quality public services and infrastructure, such as streets, utilities, public safety services, and parks. While these services are provided by the City, they are paid for by residents and businesses, who must accept either lower quality services or higher costs resulting from inefficient development patterns. Using fiscal sustainability as a guiding principle means that as we make land use and infrastructure decisions we ensure that there will be enough money to pay for basic services and infrastructure maintenance now and in the future.

Strong Towns

Strong Towns is a movement calling for cities to become more financially resilient to ensure that future-generations of communities are able to thrive because of today's decisions. To learn more about this movement, check out their website, https://www.strongtowns.org/newcomers
